SPACE POLICY
Europe weighs its next exploration chapter
Council discussions look toward Earth orbit, the Moon and Mars—and the decisions needed to get there.
At its Oct. 21–22 meeting in Paris, ESA’s Council discussed a proposal for Europe’s future in space exploration. The framework combines stronger European autonomy with international cooperation, spanning low Earth orbit, the Moon and Mars.
The Council also prepared for the Dec. 15 ministerial meeting in Rome and reviewed cooperation with the European Union. ESA describes this as a path toward later programme and financial decisions, not a fully funded new mission announcement.
