Dragonfly rehearses its first Titan flight

A realistic ground test checks how the future Titan explorer’s systems work together.

NASA reports that Dragonfly completed a comprehensive simulated first flight on a computer testbed at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Flight-like avionics and software worked with simulated sensor data to rehearse finding a safe landing site and touching down.

This happened on Earth—not at Titan. The mission is scheduled to launch no earlier than 2028, with arrival planned for 2034. Further tests will use the actual flight system and deliberately introduce faults to check autonomous responses.
