NASA outlines the next steps for Artemis

An Earth-orbit test mission comes before the planned return to the lunar surface.

NASA’s Oct. 23 briefing set out the agency’s path toward a crewed lunar landing in 2028. Artemis III is planned to send four astronauts into low Earth orbit in 2027 to test systems needed for later Moon landings.

The update also covered efforts to accelerate Artemis IV, the first planned Artemis surface mission. These are NASA’s stated mission plans and targets—not completed flights or guaranteed launch dates.
